DataSnipper: Research Roundup on the Excel-Native Audit Automation Platform

Published · DataSnipper listing

What it is

DataSnipper is an add-in and platform that lives inside Excel and automates the evidence work behind audit and finance procedures. It handles document matching, form extraction, version comparison, "find all sums," and cross-referencing that links every figure back to its source document [1][3]. The vendor now pitches it as an "agentic platform." Excel Agents take a plain-language instruction and carry out testing steps. Another feature, DocuMine, mines large sets of documents [1][3]. On G2, the vendor claims more than 600,000 users in 175 countries, including all Big Four firms. It also says it doesn't train models on customer data and that it holds SOC 2 Type II certification [1].

Pricing and packaging

The pricing page lists three packages: Start, Accelerate and Elevate. No prices are published; you get a quote [3][4]. The tiers are where the AI features sit. Start covers the core features (Snips, document matching, form extraction, version comparison). AI extractions, DocuMine, Excel Agents, the Agent Builder and prebuilt agents need Accelerate or higher. The newest cloud features (Alwin, Planning Mode, Audit Workbench, Review Workflow, Client Spaces) are Elevate only [3][4]. If the AI features are why you're buying, budget for a higher tier.

What users say

  • Ratings: about 4.8/5 on G2, from roughly 220 reviews (Toolradar counts 221 as of September 2026) [1][4].
  • Praise: G2's review summary says users consistently highlight ease of use, quick adoption, and big time savings on document matching and data extraction. Auditors describe tracing invoices and payroll summaries back to workpapers much faster [2].
  • Complaints: reviewers mention slow loading, occasional extraction bugs, and limits that come from Excel itself. Some see performance drop on large or poorly scanned documents [2][5].

Who it fits

Audit and assurance teams, and corporate finance teams doing SOX or close testing, who already work in Excel. Toolradar notes that the product is narrowly built for audit and finance, so other teams may get less out of it [4].

Questions to ask

  1. Which tier do we need for the AI features we actually plan to use? [3]
  2. How does it perform on our largest PDF evidence sets? [2]
  3. Can we get the data handling and residency terms in writing (US, EU or Australia data centers)? [1]
